Vectair-USA has received acceptance for its G1000 ‘glass cockpit’ training program based on the F.I.T.S. guidelines. FITS is the acronym for FAA Industry Training Standards. FITS was developed to help pilots master automated systems, and to help identify and manage/mitigate risks.
The training program is scenario based, airline-style LOFT (line oriented flight training), that requires the student to manage various resources and make decisions while flying the highly advanced ‘glass’ cockpits of today’s aircraft.
The program is not aircraft specific, so any pilot, flying any aircraft equipped with the G1000 avionics package will benefit from this training.
Training is performed completely in a ‘flight simulator’, the Frasca Mentor ATD (aviation training device). Frasca International has been building flight simulators and training devices for 45 years.
Training is conducted in
Olive Branch, MS. Class reservations can be made by calling (662) 893-6775 or (888) 321-3213.
A certificate of completion will be given to each pilot who successfully completes the course. Logbooks will be signed if needed, and notice of completion will be sent to the pilots’ insurance company.
Vectair USA owner, Ken Hammerton, is an airline Captain and Instructor Pilot flying ‘glass cockpit’ MD-11 cargo aircraft all around the world. Hammerton has been a flight instructor for 28 years, an airline Captain for 13 years. The past 9 years he has been a Captain on the MD-11 and the past 7 years as an Instructor and Check Airman on the MD-11. Hammerton’s instructing experience, especially with highly advanced/automated ‘glass’ cockpits and over 16,000 hours of flight time, bring a wealth of insight and knowledge to this training program.
